31 Acts of Kindness for Your Husband

In my last post, I wrote about how I plan to, as Ben Carson says, “swing the pendulum in the direction of love” by performing various acts of kindness in my community.

One of my readers commented that she also tries to spread kindness in her community, but she admitted that she sometimes forgets to show love to those living in the same house. Her husband and children. Regrettably, this is true of me, as well. Is it true for you? Sadly, I believe this is probably a reality for many of us.

Why is it so easy to show kindness to others just to leave it at the front door of our homes? Is it because we feel our loved ones will forgive and love us no matter what?  Is it because we harbor more fear about how others, friends and strangers alike, will view us?  Whatever the reason, it’s not right.

We are called to wear kindness like a necklace. A beautiful piece of accessory that will extenuate our inner beauty. But unlike other pieces of accessories, we are to wear kindness always. Don’t shed kindness off at the door like your shoes when you enter your home. Never. take. it. off.

There are hundreds of ways to show kindness to your husband (or wife), but I’ve compiled a list of thirty-one for you right here.

  1. Rub his back to help him fall asleep at night. {My Hubby loves back rubs; they help the stress of the day melt away.}
  2. Slip a note of encouragement (or a thank you note) in his car, pocket, wallet, tool box, etc. Put it where you know he will find it at some point during the day.
  3. Watch his favorite TV show or a sports game with him. {This one is hard for me to do sometimes because my Hubby likes to watch car shows…you’d think I’d be interested in this since my dad and brothers are all mechanics. But I’m not. Not. at. all.}
  4. Tell him one of your favorite memories from when you were dating.
  5. Hold any judgment you may feel and listen to his struggles.
  6. Give him a big bear hug for no reason.
  7. On sticky notes, write what you love about him and stick them all over the inside of his car.
  8. Brag about your husband on social media or to a friend.
  9. Tell him why you married him and that you’d do it all over again. {You may have already told him this, but it’s a good reminder for him}
  10. Surprise him by doing one (or more) of his chores for him.
  11. Use meal times to connect with him and put away all electronic devices.
  12. Iron his clothes for work or lay out his clothes for the next day so he can sleep in a little more.
  13. Compile a fun list of questions to ask your husband and have a night at home just listening to his answers.
  14. Thank him for the small things he does, like mowing the lawn or taking out the trash. I think it’s so easy to forget to thank him for the everyday things, but they are important for managing a home and life.
  15. Pick up his favorite drink or snack and have it waiting for him when he gets home.
  16. Share one of your favorite memories from your wedding day.
  17. When he has a headache, give him a head massage. {link a tutorial}
  18. Send him to work with some of his favorite treats whether homemade or store bought.
  19. Do something off his “Honey Do” List. Imagine the smile you’ll see when he realizes he doesn’t have to do it!
  20. Help him wash his car or better yet, do it as a surprise! {Sometimes my Hubby just wants my company while he washes his truck :)}
  21. Write an encouraging Bible verse specifically for him on a sticky note or on the bathroom mirror.
  22. Make his favorite meal even if you don’t like it.
  23. Plan a fun surprise date doing some of his favorite things.
  24. Be the first one to greet him at the door when he comes home.
  25. Write I love you on a sticky note and hide it behind the gas tank door for a fun surprise.
  26. Run his least favorite errand for him.
  27. Compile a list of words of affirmation for your husband but don’t just give him the list. Instead, text him one affirmation at a time throughout the day or week.
  28. If your husband is stressed or worried, ask him what you can do for him in that moment.
  29. Surprise him with a movie night at home with all the works – popcorn, snacks, drinks, pillows, and blankets.
  30. Ask your husband to complete this sentence: I feel most loved when you _____. And do it.
  31. This is one of the most important things you can do for your husband: Pray for him. And let him know that you do. He will appreciate it.

How do you show love to your husband (or wife)? What is your favorite act of kindness that your spouse does/ has done for you? Make sure you tell your spouse so that she will know to do it again and again.

  1. I like slipping my husband little love notes. My grandpa used to leave my grandmother little loves notes even when he was leaving the house. She just showed me one the other day. How precious.

  2. What a great blog! Some of the things I do is recognize my husband as being the leader of our family as the Bible says. I support his ideas, thank him for things, ask before taking liberties, tell him how sexy and wonderful he is. We’ve been together 25 years. The fun thing about leading the way in respecting your spouse is that he will turn it back to you in some measure. Love has no law.
